Advance Wars: Dual Strike

aka: Chaoji Da Zhanzheng DS, Famicom Wars DS

Nintendo DS version

A strategy game with slick presentation and layout.

The Good
This game has a lot going for it, the mission difficulty is well designed and it is very easy to get to grips with the control system. What really stands out in the game are the C.O. designs. Each of them is quite different and really lets you feel like you're controlling not only someone who is a great leader, but also an individual. The way they interact makes it feel somewhat light hearted, almost like a kids anime film, only with more weapons.

The Bad
Not a whole lot, although the fact you lose the multiplayer connection if one person closes their DS is very annoying. Also combat mode is just very silly, though can be good for a laugh.

The Bottom Line
It is a cross between a serious war/strategy game (including zones of fire and supplies of fuel etc) and a beat em up where each character has strengths and weaknesses. Instead of the characters your chose fighting each other hand to hand, though, their special powers are chaneled into their armies. This leads to battles between one army having a special strength in air attacks against one who can move faster for example. The graphics are simple, cute and effective with a lot of catchy music. Overall a must to any DS collection.
