Simmering

The Sims 2 gives you more control over your virtual life.Take control of your Sims and their world when the #1 PC game of 2004 arrives on Nintendo GameCube.Features* Console controls let you directly influence every move your Sims make * Create thousands of food recipes and clothing designs from items you acquire * Sims now have memories, adding a new dimension to managing your Sims' relationships * Play cooperatively with a friend in new split-screen 2-player mode

The console version was re-invented from the ground-up to capitalize on the unique capabilities of a console while maintaining that classic Sims creativity, customization and open-ended gameplay. The two top features that jump out are the two-player and direct control features. In either Story Mode or the free-play Sims Mode, two players can live together and control their Sims by way of a split-screen. Because you share your house with some computer-generated strangers (who knew The Sims would merge with The Real World?), you can control your own Sim as well as those sharing your abode. Now, instead of lining up a series of commands you want your Sim to perform, you can be more active in your Sim's daily life. Press A to interact with people or items. When you're done, just press the B Button to cancel out and get on with your life. This is especially useful with conversations. If the conversation is going well, you don't want your chat disrupted by your cued-up need to go to the bathroom. In addition to these two new features, you'll be able to customize your Sim's fashions, food, home decor and construction. Naturally, it wouldn't be a Sims game if you didn't help your Sim achieve their goals and avoid their fears as they build a network of friends (while acquiring a few enemies in the process, natch). You might find a few bad apples in Story Mode where there's 60 new characters and 16 locations to visit.Bottom Line The latest Sims game shares the feel of its predecessors, and the direct control feature is most welcome.
