Electronic Arts announces Shockwave Assault to ship on three platforms in time for holiday season; First Hollywood-style interactive 3-D science fiction movie available for Windows 95; PlayStation and Macintosh versions also scheduled for release.

SAN MATEO, Calif., December 4, 1995 -- Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS), a leading global interactive entertainment software company, today announced the release of Shockwave Assault, an interactive science-fiction combat movie, for PC (Windows 95 native), the PlayStation and Macintosh.

The game includes 15 3-D combat missions, over 50 minutes of video storytelling, Dolby Surround Sound, futuristic weaponry, and texture-mapped landscapes of real world locations.

The year is 2019. A vast armada of exotic alien warships are wreaking havoc as they unleash a deadly assault on the Earth. As the planet's defenses are destroyed, the stage is set for a novice pilot to fly death-defying solo missions in a bid to save mankind. From the cockpit of an F-177 space aircraft, Shockwave Assault players fly over landscapes created from custom aerial photography, fighting alien craft rendered using real-time 3-D graphics.

Players become totally immersed in the game as they experience suspense-filled video storytelling, real video and radio broadcasts from other pilots as they fly missions around the world, and CD-quality stereo music.

Shockwave Assault is Windows 95 native and integrates many new features such as AutoPlay, which eliminates complex installation by automatically launching the game. This version also takes advantage of Windows 95 multimedia features providing significant enhancement in performance in the areas of speed sound and graphics.

"Shockwave Assault delivers a unique blend of Hollywood film production techniques with state-of-the-art computer technology which will transport players into an intense 3-D futuristic gaming world," said Lucy Bradshaw, producer, Electronic Arts. "The Shockwave Assault development team included a Hollywood director, professional actors, a best-selling novelist/scriptwriter, award-winning audio composers, and top storyboard and computer graphic artists. The end result is a title that is truly cutting edge and will set new benchmarks in the science-fiction interactive movie category."

Shockwave Assault for the PC, PlayStation, and Macintosh will be available by Dec. 15, 1995, at a suggested retail price of $59.95.
