Monster Hunter

PlayStation 2 version

Simply fantastic.

The Good
This is another game that I didn't like when I first tried it. It just didn't seem all that interesting. However, once I was able to start making new weapons and armor, my opinion of Monster Hunter improved immensely. I still play this game online, and there are still a lot of other people who do as well.

There's nothing quite like taking down a creature ten-times your size with friends, and then using what you harvest from that creature to make more powerful equipment.

The Bad
The issue I had when I first started to play was that the fighting and missions seemed uninteresting. However, once I finished the starter missions (which only takes maybe an hour, tops) everything got a lot more interesting. Especially when I made myself a different kind of weapon than the starter sword.

The Bottom Line
Monster Hunter may not appeal to everyone, but one thing everyone can agree on is that it has tremendous replay value. Once you get into the game, you'll be raiding wyvern nests or going on the hunt for huge insects just so you can complete that set of armor you've been putting together. When you also consider playing online to help friends or taking part in some of the special online-only hunts, Monster Hunter can truely keep you busy for a long time.
