DOS version

Fun but sometimes frustrating

The Good
The thing that made this game stand out when I played it years ago was it's storyline. The game has three episodes that all take place in different environments and the characters involved are changing as constantly as the circumstances that bring you to the next mission. Boring isn't a word one would use to describe the story, certainly. While there is a lot of foul language in the dialogue, the game also gives you the option of having things toned down.

The gameplay is fun, too. Anyone should be able to hop in this game and play through, as the difficulty level never gets unbearably high. The graphics are the standard for the time, and the music during missions usually matches the intensity of the current storyline.

The Bad
While the difficulty levels of the mission never get too high, they definately can be much too easy at times. There are also some major flaws in the game-engine that can pop up at the worst times during a mission, such as an important target that gets stuck "inside" a building and therefore impossible to destroy.

The storyline, while fun, can also be a little too childish. Granted, the language used in this game is NOT for children and you get 2 different script options, there could have been a little more polish or depth to the characters.

The Bottom Line
While is is definately a top-down shoot-em-up there's more depth to the gameplay and story than most games of the same type. There is an obvious attempt to make the game experience more than a monotonous action game, and that attempt is mostly successfull.

If anyone these days still plays DOS games like me, I'd highly recommend giving this game a try. You can get the first episode for free and can probably find the other 2 on e-bay or on someone's personal web page. It won't suck up more than 10 hours of your time to get through all 3 episodes, each containing 20 missions, but when it's finished you'll be happy you played it.
