IndyCar Racing II

One of the greatest racing games of all time!!

The Good
This is one of the first games I bought for my old Pentium computer and I have to say this is one of those games that provides a challenge without reducing the fun factor. Every detail is there including the amazing wrecks in which your car will come apart in pieces. The amount of realism is unbelievable, but the realism can be too realistic for some gamers. The introduction is nice with a good upbeat song while you cruise around Laguna Seca. Each track is modeled directly from the originals, including the corkscrew turn at Laguna to the wide speedway at Michigan in which you can reach speeds of 220mph plus.

The sound is great, from the starting engine to the top speed whirl.

The Bad
Because of it being too realistic, for beginners starting out with no tweaking of their cars, the cars will fishtail in the turns alot and you'll be spinning in out several times. There are many different setups to choose from and it just takes time to get used to it. It's not the overall jump right in and play type of game.

They forgot to add crew members and pit-talks like they did with Nascar 2 also from the same company. So you won't be hearing your crewchief tell you that you're running out of gas or to come in for repairs. Also there are no actual racer names, all you'll get is a numbered car, and you'll have to add real racer names manually or download a roster set.

The Bottom Line
Overall, this game still beats the modern marvels of CART racing. No game has come this close to the real thing. Cart Precision Racing was the next in line but didn't meet up to expectations, and then you have IndyCar Series Racing which is typically IRL series and has oval tracks. An aging game that still outclasses today's racing games!
