Starwave's Castle Infinity brings kids together from around the world

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 19, 1997-- More than 25 countries represented in popular multiplayer Internet game

Starwave Corp. today announced that thousands of kids from more than 25 countries around the world are currently playing its popular multiplayer Internet game, Castle Infinity(TM).

The rapidly growing list of countries represented with players includes Australia, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, South Africa and the United States.

"The Internet has the ability to break down the barriers of distance," said David Gedye, Starwave's director of online gaming. "We're finding that kids are using Castle Infinity to keep in touch with family members and friends living elsewhere, in addition to enjoying stimulating and ever-changing game play."

Most of the kids playing Castle Infinity discovered the game through its Web site. "The Internet is absolutely essential to the successful distribution of this product," Gedye said. "At the retail level, Castle Infinity was available only through a few outlets in the United States. The Internet allows us to easily reach kids all over the world."

Confirming its international appeal, Castle Infinity was recently awarded the 1997 Bologna New Media Prize for Web Innovation in the Best Internet Site for Children category. This new international awards program for children's software and Internet sites is the first in which parents, librarians, educators and children from around the world can participate in the nomination process. Created by the Bologna Children's Book Fair in collaboration with Children's Software Revue, the program recognizes the growing significance of children's software. The Bologna Children's Book Fair is held annually in Bologna, Italy. Children's Software Revue is a U.S.-based publication dedicated to the evaluation of children's software.

Castle Infinity is the ultimate multiplayer adventure game for kids ages 8- 12, combining the graphics and sound of a CD-ROM game with the communication capabilities of the Internet. Once inside Castle Infinity, players find themselves in a vast, live online gaming environment featuring more than 50 sectors (and growing), where they can join forces with other kids to drive invading monsters from the Castle's halls and save the dinosaurs that live there. Communicating in cartoon-style talk balloons, players are encouraged to work together as they tackle arcade-style challenges.
