Tower of the Sorcerer

An addictive puzzle with elements of an RPG

The Good
What I find nice about this game is that you can take your time and really think your way to the 50th floor; there are no time limits or penalties for taking too long.

Another nice feature in this game is that every 10 floors your progress is evaluated and you are assigned a final score for those completed levels. This adds some replay value since you will naturally want to improve your score, and solve the game with greater efficiency.

The game can be saved as you progress, so if any major mistake is made, you don't have to replay the entire game. Eight slots are available for saved games.

The Bad
After playing this game and reaching the top floor, the game restarts at the beginning again within a 'harder' mode. I found the game easier the second time through, NOT harder.

Although understandable, the English translation was not great, so occasionally comments adding to the story would make you scratch your head.

Some of the sound effects were a tad bit annoying; fortunately they are provided in separate .wav files and I was able to modify them to be more pleasing to my ears.

The Bottom Line
Tower of the Sorcerer is fun - It's that simple. As you progress it feels like you're slashing and hacking your way through an RPG - but it is not an RPG, it is a puzzle first and foremost.

The game is moderately challenging and so it is unlikely many will solve this game the first time they try, or do so in one sitting. One final note, this game has a few secrets that are worth discovering.
