Hedgewars
Description official description
Hedgewars is a turn-based strategy, Artillery, action and comedy game, featuring the antics of pink hedgehogs with attitude as they battle from the depths of hell to the depths of space. As commander, it's your job to assemble your crack team of hedgehog soldiers and bring the war to your enemy.
Each player controls a team of up to eight hedgehogs. During the course of the game, players take turns with one of their hedgehogs. They then use whatever tools and weapons are available to attack and kill the opponents' hedgehogs, thereby winning the game.
Hedgehogs may move around the terrain in a variety of ways, normally by walking and jumping but also by using particular tools such as the rope or parachute, to move to otherwise inaccessible areas. Each turn is time-limited to ensure that players do not hold up the game with excessive thinking or moving.
There's a singleplayer mode with campaigns, missions and challenges, you can play custom matches against the computer. And there's a multiplayer mode, both hotseat and online with up to 8 players. Many aspects of the gameplay can be modified with custom game rules or by trying out one of the scripted game modes.
Hedgewars is heavily inspired by Worms World Party.

Trivia
Development history
Hedgewars was developed on-and-off over the course of over 10 years and has had over 140 contributors.
Hedgewars was started by Andrey Korotaev (alias unC0Rr). In 2004, he wanted Worms World Party with additional features, the result, of course, was Hedgewars. Hedgewars' gameplay is very similar to Worms World Party and heavily influenced by it. However, it's still a game in its own right: All the graphics, sounds, musics, missions, campaigns, programming, etc. are still 100% original creations.
Two years later he released it to the public (version 0.8.1). It had almost everything it has now, but less content. Although he is less active today, he remains the leader.
Free/open software license
Everything that is part of Hedgewars, that is, the game code, the graphics, music, sounds, etc. is under free/open software licenses. Everyone is encouraged to share, edit and adapt the game to their liking and freely share their changes with the world.
