First Computer Game To Feature 1997 PGA TOUR Player of the Year Tiger Woods**

SAN MATEO, August 26, 1998 - Electronic Arts’ (Nasdaq:ERTS), the world's largest interactive entertainment software company, today announced it is shipping its highly anticipated interactive golf game Tiger Woods 99 PGA TOUR® Golf for the PC. In the only computer game featuring Tiger Woods, players can golf as Tiger or golf against Tiger while playing exclusive golf courses Pebble Beach Golf Links®, Tournament Players Club (TPC) at Sawgrass’ and TPC at Summerlin’. In addition, the game features interactive coaching "Tiger Tips" designed to help your cyber game and your real game. This unique product is the first of a series of games to ship under Electronic Arts' four-year worldwide exclusive licensing agreement for the interactive entertainment rights to the 1997 PGA TOUR Player of the Year and leading money winner Tiger Woods.

Tiger Woods 99 PGA TOUR Golf includes the following key features:

  • In addition to Tiger Woods, the game features seven PGA TOUR professionals including - Mark O'Meara (1998 Masters and British Open Champion with 15 PGA TOUR victories) and Lee Janzen (1998 & 1993 US Open Champion with eight PGA TOUR victories). Other players included are: Davis Love III (1997 PGA Champion and 12 PGA TOUR victories), Brad Faxon (five PGA TOUR victories), Peter Jacobsen (six PGA TOUR victories), Tom Kite (1992 U.S. Open and 19 PGA TOUR victories) and Craig Stadler (1982 Masters Champion and 12 PGA TOUR victories).
  • Revolutionary 3-D game engine delivers full screen, real-time moving cameras that follow the ball in flight. Cameras allow players to plan their next shot from a first-person perspective - no more slide show golf.
  • Seventeen Tiger Tips appear randomly during stroke play and practice modes. Tips (i.e., "what to do from a downhill lie") are sure to help your "real" golf game as well as your cyber game. Other unique "Tiger" features are the "Tiger Shot" which is a surprising reward for a perfectly hit shot, the "Tiger Zone" that gives golfers extra distance on their shots as well as "Tiger Vision" which works with "Tiger Zone" so that the player can choose a safe or an aggressive shot.
  • Three-click and analog swing options.
  • Nine game play modes: practice, stroke, tournament, The Skins Game’, shoot-out, match play, foursomes, fourball, and driving range.

Tiger Woods 99 PGA TOUR Golf: The Courses

In Tiger Woods 99 PGA TOUR Golf, golfers can tee up at exclusive PGA TOUR courses where every hole features the exact characteristics and surroundings of the real hole, including tree-lined fairways, water hazards, huge sand bunkers and undulating greens. Tiger Woods 99 PGA TOUR Golf for the PC will ship with three exclusive courses: Pebble Beach Golf Links, TPC at Sawgrass and TPC at Summerlin.

The game will also be backwards compatible with existing PGA TOUR Pro courses including: The Bay Hill’ Club, TPC at Avenel’, Spyglass Hill’ and The Links at Spanish Bay’. By November 1998, a total of 16 golf courses will be available for Tiger Woods 99 PGA TOUR Golf. New course discs are: - The Tournament Courses (Colonial Country Club’, The Bay Hill Club and Cog Hill Golf & Country Club’) available at launch. - The TPC Courses (TPC at Las Colinas’, TPC at Southwind’ and TPC of Scottsdale’) available at launch. - A third disc, The Vegas Courses will be available in November 1998.

Tiger Woods 99 PGA TOUR Golf: Golfing on the Internet

Tiger Woods 99 PGA TOUR Golf has easy-to-use Internet play allowing golfers to compete against players from around the world. Internet voice chat and text chat options allow players to converse with and heckle their opponents. This year EA SPORTS will hold its second annual EA SPORTS Internet Tour offering cash and prizes to the country's best cyber golfers. More information on the EA SPORTS Internet Tour will be available later this summer.

Tiger Woods 99 PGA TOUR Golf includes 3Dfx support, LAN and modem gameplay. The game carries a suggested retail price of $39.95; add-on golf course discs carry a suggested retail price of $19.95.
