REDWOOD CITY, Calif., August 14, 2001 – Feudal Japan resurrects itself in Shogun: Total War’ Warlord Edition for the PC, which has shipped to retail outlets nationwide under the EA GAMES’ brand from Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS). The game features a new enemy who threatens to destroy the country, as well as offers an array of new and improved features while reintroducing players to the original Shogun: Total War – the highly acclaimed real-time PC strategy game released last year.

The Warlord Edition builds upon the excitement found in the original Shogun with the inclusion of Kublai Khan’s invading Mongol hordes that try and conquer Japan in the greatest external threat the Samurai ever faced. Players take on the role of a sixteenth Century Japanese general – the Daimyo (clan leader) -- and can play from either side by assuming the role of Kublai and the Mongols or engage in battle against them. In addition, players can take on the role of one of Japan’s greatest Daimyos to fight their infamous battles in the “Campaigns of the Three Unifiers.”

Like its predecessor, the Warlord Edition delivers a revolutionary style of gameplay through its epic size battles. The title allows players to take command of thousands of warriors, each with his own unique Artificial Intelligence (AI) and fighting characteristics to unify Japan under his own powerful warlord. The Warlord Edition stays true to the inspirational writings of the mysterious warrior-philosopher Sun Tzu, author of the seminal book on strategy, The Art of War, by utilizing more than 100 rules from Sun Tzu’s work to ensure accurate and unpredictable AI character behavior and reaction.

Key features include:

• Ten new battlefield units.
• New region upgrades, including new buildings such as the Drill Dojo, to improve holdings.
• Multi-player game types – up to six players via LAN or the Internet in new multiplayer games.
• New strategy map scenarios for quick tactical battles.
• Multiple Battle Modes – two new additions whose goal is to defeat the enemy or capture tactical points such as castles.
• Map and Scenario Editors – Define the strategy map starting positions and set up individual campaigns for both single and multi-player games.
• Unit Training -- Improve solider skills and equipment.
• Stunning Art – Crisp Full Motion Video animation and high resolution still art.

The game also features a variety of additional upgrades and improvements such as more polished unit graphics, textures and special effects; advanced AI for more challenging enemies; and a more intuitive interface with streamlined camera views and improved battlefields controls.

Shogun: Total War Warlord Edition for the PC was developed by UK-based Creative Assembly, produced by Dreamtime Interactive and is published in North America by Electronic Arts. The game is a stand-alone product and does not require the previous version of Shogun to play the Warlord Edition. The game carries an ESRB “T” (Teen) rating and MSRP US$39.95.
