Sound Source Interactive Now Shipping "The Abyss:Incident at Europa" Game CD-ROM.

CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 6, 1998-- Company's Premiere Real-Time, First-Person Adventure Game Features Offer for Free Video of James Cameron's Sci-Fi Classic Film, "The Abyss"

Sound Source Interactive Inc. (Nasdaq:SSII) Tuesday announced that its first adventure game CD-ROM, "The Abyss: Incident at Europa," is now shipping.

The game is based on the film "The Abyss," directed by James Cameron. A national promotion with this game release offers the opportunity to obtain a free videocassette of "The Abyss."

"The Abyss: Incident at Europa" (SRP $29.99) provides several immersive, sometimes very alien environments in which players must explore and solve puzzles.

Starting in Deepcore, the undersea research vessel from the movie "The Abyss," players set out on an adventure to an alien research facility and the caverns located in the farthest reaches of Jupiter's moon, Europa. Mutated alien and human life forms provide further challenges as players explore each world. The adventure experience is enhanced by the beautiful cinematic sequences, lush aural soundscapes and a CD-quality soundtrack.

"The Abyss: Incident at Europa' breaks new ground by taking a first-person adventure game likeMyst' and adding a real-time component, like `Doom,' so you actually feel like you are a character in the world -- not just looking at pictures," noted Vincent J. Bitetti, chairman and CEO of Sound Source Interactive.

"Yet we purposely developed this new CD-ROM to be enjoyed by the entire family on everyday computer systems, not just expensive, high-tech computer game platforms."

Based on a continuation of the original story from James Cameron's sci-fi classic, "The Abyss," the game takes place six years later, when a mysterious mutating disease strikes the crew of the submerged vessel, Deepcore, and the Non-Terrestrial Intelligence residing in the Cayman Trench.

As the main character, Bud Brigman or Lindsay Brigman, you must find out how to control this spreading mutagenic viral disease and save the galaxy. Fail, and the entire race of humans -- and countless other intelligent beings -- fall to bizarre genetic alterations of a strange, predatory alien species.

"The Abyss: Incident at Europa" transcends all genres, providing a challenging, immersive adventure gaming experience. Enjoyable by the entire family, the game contains minimal violence and carries the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) "E -- Everyone" rating. The system requirements and value pricing make the product accessible to a large installed base of computer users, not just hard-core gamers.

A special coupon on the box cover provides details of the free home video offer that will run to Feb. 28, 1999. A $4.99 fee is required for shipping and handling.

"The Abyss: Incident at Europa" requires Windows 95/98, a Pentium 90 or higher system, 24 MB of RAM and a 2X CD-ROM drive. Recommended is a Pentium 133 or higher, 16MB RAM, Sound Blaster compatible audio card and PCI Video card. A 3-D video card or hardware acceleration card is not required.

Sound Source Interactive, ranked by PC Data as the sixth-largest publisher of educational software, develops and publishes licensed, award-winning children's software products. Sound Source Interactive produces a line of interactive games, including "Star Trek: The Game Show" and "Olympus: War of the Gods," scheduled for release in spring 1999.
