Get ya groove on.

Capcom lets you pick your own groove and your own fighting style in Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO for the Nintendo GameCube.

This fighter features 44 brawlers from classic 2D fighting games. Just about every character from the Street Fighter series appears here, including Dhalsim, Blanka, Bison and Ryu. Eagle makes his first appearance since the very first Street Fighter game, so he will be new to most of you. SNK brings fighters from heralded franchises King of Fighters, Final Fight and Fatal Fury. More obscure characters include Haohmaru and Nakoruru from Samurai Showdown and Morrigan from Dark Stalkers.

Storylines have always been secondary in fighting games, and it's no different this time around. The yarn Capcom spins is a simple one. Two monster corporations are at war, and a huge martial arts event is arranged to settle the conflict. An Oscar-winning screenplay? Not exactly. Do we care? Nope.

In this game, "EO" stands for extreme offense. The acronym is apt, because players can unleash the game's most devastating special and super moves with a simple flick of the C-Stick. To narrow the sprawling gap between experienced and novice players, Capcom has implemented two different control modes: GC-Ism and AC-Ism.

Designed for beginning players, GC-Ism features the C-Stick control described above. This feature also automatically blocks for the player and can determine the strength of an attack based on how hard the L and R Buttons are pressed.

AC-Ism is for veteran brawlers. It requires the player to manually enter light, medium and hard attacks.

In addition to the two different control modes, players can also choose between six different fighting "grooves." Each groove is based on past fighting systems and caters to the individual style of the player. Here's a quick look at the different grooves available:

C Groove - This allows players to use Level 1-3 Super Combos, Air Blocks and Counter Attacks to defeat opponents.

A Groove - This groove features the original combo system found in the Street Fighter Zero series. Custom combos can be mixed and matched.

P Groove - This groove allows players to parry any attack. Only Level 3 Super Combos can be used in this groove.

S Groove - This style is very similar to the SNK groove found in the original game. When a character's strength is low, there is no limit to the amount of Super Combos a player can use. When the strength is almost gone, a Max Super Attack can be activated.

N Groove - From King of Fighters '98, this groove allows players to stock three levels of Super Gauge.

K Groove - This groove combines a Just Defense (which renders the opponent's attacks useless) and a Rage Gauge. When the Rage Gauge is full, the player's attack power increases and a Max Super Attack becomes available.

Sound confusing? For newcomers, it probably does. But don't worry. Once you get your hands on a Controller it's quite simple to start bringin' the pain. Be sure to check out our screen shot gallery too for great shots of Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO in action.

Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO has been rated "T" (Teen) by the independent Entertainment Software Rating Board. Progress is saved to a Memory Card (not included) and requires two free blocks.
