Men of War: Assault Squad

Moby ID: 51974

Description

Men of War: Assault Squad is a real-time tactics game and primarily designed as multiplayer game. The new skirmish mode offers 15 scenarios which are loosely based on real WWII battles and feature overall five nations: USA, Britain, Germany, Russia and Japan. Those maps can be played alone; but they are meant for co-op (up to eight players). Then every player takes control over a part of the units - coordination required. New multiplayer maps for player versus combat are also included.

The game itself is still basically the same as the predecessors: On each map there are several bases to conquer. Every base in a team's possession gives points; the first faction to have a certain number wins. In comparison to other tactics games this one focuses more on a realistic approach, meaning that tank battles go over a large distance instead of potshots in four meter distance. Hero units (especially strong; boost the morale of troops around them) and special attacks like airstrikes are other tactical elements. Besides the usual point and click method the player can take control a vehicle directly with the keyboard.

Other additions of this installment are a reworked artillery system and new ammo types for tanks. Technical improvements include a further enhanced physics system.

Trivia

German version

The German edition was withdrawn after a short time. The reason was a recognizable Nazi symbol on the German soldier's helmet on the front cover. The second edition comes with a reworked front cover.
