aka: Adventure SR, Adventure SRT, Dearben Lite

The computer program "Adventure" (aka "Colossal Cave Adventure") was born in 1975 and is a forerunner of virtual reality and as such, is a forerunner of interactive storytelling. It has been tremendously influential. This was the first of its kind -- using words to create a rich simulated imaginary world.

I've updated this famous computer game with sound and speech recognition. You can play with or without graphics. To begin please click play on the menu bar. Much like the original game running on a time-sharing mainframe, this cave is only open to a limited number of adventurers and only when enough computing time is available. So, please call again later if you can't connect.

The latests versions of 610dearben are now available for iPhone and iPad here. They don't require you call to play, and we highly recommend this new version as it doesn't have the costly requirement of additional phone lines.

The object of Adventure is to score points by finding treasures in the cave and depositing them in the house. I'll be your eyes and ears and describe what I see and hear. When it's your turn to talk I'll ring a bell. Speak commands of a few words. Say compass directions to move. For example, "go east". Manipulate objects by saying "get" or "drop" and the object name. You might say, "get the lamp". If you say "take me to the chat room," you'll be able to talk with other game players and later return to the game in progress. More complete instructions are available when you call.
