DOS version

Ah... so old and still ah... so cute

The Good
When you start up the game, you can really see that the game is old. I mean very old(well, the game does tell you that it was programmed in 1992). But, unlike most games, this time it might actually be an advantage. Well, if we disregard the fact that as a DOS game it might not work with the newest hardware.

Basically the game is a simple platform where you walk and jump your way through levels and whack your enemies. You collect points by both whacking your enemies and collecting items you see including food, diamonds, video games and so on. There are also hidden items which are simply HUGE food items, but these you need to find by hitting the right spots with your club.

The graphics are nice with nice little details. The main character is a barbarian who whacks enemies with a bat that's half his length and later on with a hammer that's almost twice his size. If you run for a long way and then stop for a while, the character is out of breath. The controls are simple and works well. You have only five action buttons: four for movement(the arrow keys) and one for attack(space bar)

The Bad
Well, the game somewhat can't get past the same fact that makes it fun: it's simplicity. As I said it's basically just another platformer. While it's fun to play it for a while, it's playing time ain't too long. You get bored pretty fast, especially if you're too lazy to collect the passwords to skip the first few levels when you get through them.

I can't really say anything about the sound engine since at least with my machine it didn't work too good. It had too mucn interference to really make out any effects. But you can't blame the game for this fault, though.

The Bottom Line
Apart from the fact that the sound engine didn't work this game is a perfect way to spend those fifteen minutes of spare time. But don't expect it to occupy you full timed. It's at it's best as a light snack, but if you play it too much you don't want to return to the game for a while. But it's just one of those games you feel drafted to every once in a while.
