The Good
This game defines what comes up in the Grand Theft Auto series, the three dimensional environment, the missions, most of it is used in Grand Theft Auto games that proceed after this game was developed (GTA 3 and onward).

As Most GTA games, you have many vehicles in this game, some special, some just regular driving vehicles. The vehicles used are specific to the time period that you are in.

Nintendo lost a big opportunity on this game. They were initially going to publish it, but demanded more puzzles so they could release it in Japan. Once they jumped ship on it, Gremlin and Midway took over and reaped the benefits of such a great game.

The Bad
This game has such sub-par graphics compared to other games released for the Nintendo 64. The people in the game that are outside look like far too animated, they are not real at all and you can tell. The aliens

Rebuilding your gun supply is nasty, every time you get to a new time period,or restarting the game, you are basically throwing out all the ammo you gained in the prior time period.

The Bottom Line
Any Grand Theft Auto addict should play this one. This game is underrated, due to such great releases by Nintendo and Rare for the Nintendo 64, but this game should be placed with them.
