Super Time Force
Description
Super Time Force is a run-and-gun 2D platformer based around a time travel mechanic and a pixel visual style. The game starts in 1987 when time travel is invented by Doctor Repeatski. He is however visited by his future self, called Commander Repeatski, as Earth is soon invaded by blounbots. Repeatski assembles a team called Super Time Force with Jean Rambois, Aimy McKillen and Shieldy Blockerson to fight the robots. After the tutorial mission any of the six environments (1,000,000 BC, 9,600 BC, 673, 198x, 199x and 3072), each with its own theme, can be played right away.
Each level needs to be completed in 60 seconds, destroying obstacles and defeating enemies. It is however not possible to just rush through the stage. At the start about 30 rewinds are provided, which act as lives. As soon as the character is hit, or when the player decides to, a time out can be called. It is then possible to rewind a portion, or the entire stage, and play along the character of the first session. As this can be repeated many times, the gameplay can soon become chaotic. This can be done with the same character or a different one. If you save your previous character before he or she got killed, it acts as a power-up adding the charged attack to yours. The team mate's time essence also acts as a shield and absorbs one hit.
Characters often need to work together cooperatively. Next to the basic abilities such as movement, jumping and basic shooting, each character has a charged attack. Rambois will for instance fire three bullets at once, McKillen fires a laser that passes through walls, and Blockerson cannot shoot but raises a shield that reflects bullets and destroys projectiles and lasers. Many more characters can unlocked with specific abilities, either by starting or finishing stages, or by completing objectives. They include Cleo, Commander Repeatski, Da Vinci, Dolphin Lundgren, Jef Leppard, Looker, Lou Don Jim, Melanie Gibson, Merlin, Re-Bot, Squirty Harry, Stash, and Zackasaurus. A fixed sequence of characters is not needed to complete levels, there are multiple options. Each level contains three pink shards that slow down time for an extended time. Levels also contain ten yellow glorbs that add an additional rewind. Time bonuses can be picked up as well. Each level holds an additional looker challenge. When a looker shard is located and picked up, a timer is started and the player has that amount of time to reach the looker from the beginning of the level.
