Description

It came from space, and ate our brains is the commercial version of the prototype browser game It came from space, and ate our brains! The basic concept is the same. It is a twin stick shooter where a blocky character needs to survive in a small environment, fighting off many waves of aliens. The character can freely move in a dark environment and can shoot in any direction. Aliens spawn in many locations of the map at once. A small part of their body is bright and emits some light, but everything else dissolves into the darkness. The character holds a flashlights that shines automatically in the viewing direction. To keep track of aliens appearing from all sides, constant movement and turning is required.

This commercial version has improved graphics and much more variety in enemies for speed and the amount of damage they can receive. Some also have the ability to leap towards you. The fixed police car upgrade location has been replaced with a menu screen to buy weapons in any location through a separate menu screen that now also pauses the game. The starting weapon is a pistol. By killing aliens, and many in succession for multipliers, a score is earned. The points can be traded in for new weapons. Next to the existing weapons from the original game, a pistol, shotgun, machine gun and rocket launcher, players can now also buy a plasma gun and a laser gun. Each weapon can now be upgraded three times to improve damage, spread, range and rate.

It is no longer possible to buy health or a speed boost. The character can boost at any moment with a short time to recuperate. Bonus items now appear in random locations around the map. They are dropped by a police craft that flies past regularly. Bonus items are additional points, health and a random, powerful and temporary weapon upgrade. Alien spawns are now announced through a pink circle so the character can move out the way in time. There are four difficulty levels and twelve locations unlocked gradually. A game is won and a new location is accessed after a certain amount of waves have been survived. The game supports cooperative online multiplayer games for up to four players.
