Robotech: Battlecry

Moby ID: 7665

Robotech: BattleCry marks the triumphant return of the 80s cartoon series. Even newcomers to the Robotech universe will love the epic mech-warfare.

As the World Burns

For those of you who are dedicated followers of the cartoon series, this game takes place on Earth during the first saga, shortly after the events of Episode 28. The Zentraedi are working peacefully with humans to rebuild the obliterated planet, but the union of the two races will soon take a violent turn.

For those of you who don't know a Zentraedi from a Zamboni machine, don't worry. The beautiful cut-scenes in Robotech: BattleCry will bring you up to speed in no time. Whether you're a fan of the series or not, you are bound to love the transforming Veritech robots and all their lovely firepower.

Massive Mechs

With five different Veritech models, there is plenty of mech-coolness to go around. Returning from the TV series are the VF-1A, VF-1D, VF-1J and VF-1S. There is also a new Veritech, YF-1R, that comes equipped with a gun pod and a plethora of missiles.

Through more than 40 missions, you use the morphing powers of your high-tech robots to switch among three different forms. The Battloid form is well suited for close combat with a tight turning radius and lots of firepower. In Fighter form, you will transform into an outerspace fighter built for speed and armed with homing missiles, laser cannons, particle beams and torpedoes. A combination of the two is Guardian form, which also has a hook arm that can be used to grab certain objects.

Soaring through a variety of locations including Alaska, Macross City, and the Rings of Saturn, you will obliterate enemies using the three Veritech modes. Battles range from urban brawls featuring buildings crumbling when hit by stray missiles, to outerspace dogfights with massive Destroyers and a flurry of explosions.

In addition to the Story Mode, two players can battle head-to-head in Versus Mode. Players will pilot their own Veritech or hop in a female Zentraedi's power armor in eight unlockable battlefields.

Graphics and Sound

The cel-shading graphics style in Robotech: BattleCry captures the look and feel of the cartoon very well. The trademark circular explosions burst all over the sky, and smoke trails reveal the path of missile swarms. Each of the Veritechs is quite detailed with appropriate insignia and colors. For a sharper and clearer image, select the Progressive Scan option when playing on a TV set that supports that feature.

Seven voice actors from the original TV show return to bring your favorite characters to life. Many actors perform double duty, playing both a returning character and one of the many new characters introduced by the game.

Robotech: BattleCry captures the look and feel of the cartoon to a "T". If you're a fan of the series that's all you need to know, but epic battles and cool weapons will please any sci-fi fan.

Product Intro

In the year 1999, while the Earth was embroiled in a global war, an alien vessel entered the planet's atmosphere and crashed on an island off the coast of Alaska. Initial examination of the craft (codenamed the SDF-1, or Super Dimensional Fortress One) revealed it to be some sort of giant battle fortress constructed of a science far beyond that of Earth, called Robotechnology.

Humans were no longer alone in the universe, and now faced the possible threat of superior alien forces. The nations of the world put aside their differences and joined together in order to share in this new technology and prepare for the planet's defense. The Robotech Defense Force, or RDF was assembled for the purpose of safeguarding the planet. Using Robotechnology, scientists created new weapons and vehicles.

Soon after the Earth government completed its repairs of the battle fortress, the vast Zentraedi armada appeared, bent on retrieving the SDF-1 and the secrets it contained. It is now up to you to save your planet for what is left of the Zentraedi forces.
