Spyro: Year of the Dragon

aka: Spyro 3, Spyro: El Año del Dragón
Moby ID: 7669

Summary

It just goes to show, you can't keep a good dragon down. The world's cutest flame-thrower returns to the PS one for another jaunt, and this time it's to get his claws on a clutch of stolen dragon eggs. The evil sorceress Bianca is responsible for poaching said eggs, and it's up to Spyro to recover the precious items and return them to their rightful owners.

The nasty rhynocs, Bianca's dim-witted henchmen, have egg-napped the dragons' babies for their magical powers and taken them to the Forgotten World, but managed to drop most of them along the way. Playing as the sheep-worrying fire-breather, it's up to you to pursue the bad guys, collect the eggs, and restore order to the kingdom.

Details

There are 37 levels to roam around, all imaginatively rendered with shiny, rounded graphics and populated with a wealth of characters that you'll encounter on your travels. Spyro's best friend Sparx is along for the ride again, and even gets his own mini-game to unlock. You'll meet some new friends on your travels too, including a kangaroo called Sheila, and a space monkey(!) called Agent 9. These playable characters are on-hand to help Spyro, and all of them have their own worlds and stories to accompany their adventures. Amongst the mini-games on offer are a skateboarding challenge, a first-person shooter game and a boxing match.

Year of the Dragon, Insomniac's final Spyro-based outing on the PS one, is essentially another helping of scaly 3D shenanigans, but with some great additions to the tried and true formula. Exploring the vivid environment, searching for gems and dragon eggs, you'll get up to the usual tomfoolery for which the diminutive dragon is so well-loved. The gameplay and story depth are much improved, and the additional playable characters and vehicles make this a must for fans of Spyro, and the platform genre in general.

Features

  • Loads of great mini-games to unlock, including skateboarding, sub challenges and boxing

  • New mini-bosses add variety to the levels

  • Great new vehicles for Spyro to get round in, including a flying saucer!
