Bloodstroke

John Woo's Bloodstroke is an action game where a character called Lotus, the code name of Phalanx's elite agent Mai Lee, provides private security for a Dr. Koorse. She has to protect him against members of Hong Kong triad groups. The game is shown through a bird's-eye view and both characters are on the screen at the same time, but only Lotus can be controlled. She can run through enemies to attack them with melee weapons or through a virtual button tap shoot the nearest enemy automatically. Dr. Koorse has a health bar and she has to prevent him from getting hit. Kills earn points and these are rewarded with cash.

The gun requires a short moment to reload. There are supply drops, health kits and grenades that can be thrown. The game scrolls automatically, choosing different angles and following Dr. Koorse's pace, but Lotus can be controlled independently using a virtual analog stick on the left to move her anywhere on the screen. Level are set in Beijing and Hong Kong. They follow the same survival concept and usually it is sufficient to survive a certain number of enemy waves. Enemies include regular gangsters, katana-wielding bikers and snipers.

Cash can be spent at a shop on upgrades and new weapons such as dual chackrams, a shotgun, a grenade launcher etc.. Weapons also have individual upgrades for damage, clip size and reloading time. Dr. Koorse can be upgraded as well so he has more energy. In separate arenas additional cash can be earned.

The game uses a monochromatic visual style with soft brushstrokes. Red is only the colour through Lotus' outfit and the blood of slain enemies. Between missions the story is furthered through comic book-style panels in cut-scenes. The game is endorsed by filmmaker John Woo.
