Most fans of the first person shooter genre already know about Tom Clancy's Raven Shield, the next incarnation in the Rainbow Six series. A joint development by Ubi Soft's Montreal studio and Red Storm Entertainment, and using the Unreal Warfare engine, Raven Shield is a truly revolutionary step forward for the tactical first person shooter genre.

As terrorists threaten to put the world on the brink of geopolitical turmoil, players must use their skills, as well as a range of high-tech gadgets and weapons to protect the world as we know it. Not only does the team have a large range of gadgets at their disposal, but the players freedom to interact with the team is at an all-time high. For the first time in an FPS, players have full control over peek and crouch - meaning they can peek just far enough around a corner to eliminate any threat.

Player's ability to infiltrate is also improved thanks to the introduction of gradual and quick door opening. The Rainbow Six team can either slowly open doors to sneak up on enemies, or burst through quickly to surprise those inside. No longer must doors be either fully open or fully closed - every position in between is possible!

One of the most useful additions to the players interface is the "Wind Rose" system, an on-screen HUD which allows clear and fast orders to be issued to your computer controlled teammates. Players can issue orders like "Open, Frag and Clear" to quickly and easily infiltrate a room enemies are occupying.

Of course, multiplayer and First Person Shooters go hand in hand, and using the power of the Unreal Warfare engine, the multiplayer in this Rainbow Six game is like none before it. Finally there will be dedicated servers - allowing for the best possible multiplayer experience. Most innovatively, there will be a 'commander mode' which will allow one player to act as a General, who will not take part in the action but instead coordinate his team's tactics from a safe place. Tactical gameplay will reach a level of refinement never before seen. Perhaps most exciting is the prospect of a global clan and player ladder for all players who connect and play through ubi.com.

Raven Shield will give players a behind the scenes look at various government agencies as they discover, through the course of the Clancy-crafted storyline, the various black-ops factions at work in the world today.
