In addition to the instructions, Starmaster also came with a strategy book called The Power of the Starmaster.

High score reward

If, on game 1 (Ensign), you achieved a final score of 3800 or more and sent a picture of your TV screen showing this, Activision would send you an "Order of the Supreme Starmaster" patch). Also, if you got 5700 point in Game 2 (Leader), 7600 points in Game 3 (Wing Commander) and/or 9000 points in Game 4 (StarMaster) and sent pictures of these, there were additional chevron patches you could get.
