Sheer simplicity

The Good
What I like about this game, just like other games released around the same time, is its sheer simplicity. Back then, it didn’t matter how flashy the graphics were, as long as the game is simple and to the point. In this reviewer’s opinion, it is also one of the few games where timing plays a key role. In Aaargh! Condor, you need to know when to fire your spear found at the top of the mountain; miss, and the condor flying above may snatch the baby who has fallen down. The condor is intelligent as well. It knows how to hurl its egg at a spot where you are about to walk, and it is hard to avoid being bombed. The sound effects are basic and nothing to write home about, but I like the flapping of the condor.

The Bad
The graphics mainly consist of a dull grey used for the main structures, such as the mountain. Only different colors are used for the different enemies.

The Bottom Line
Aaargh! Condor is a simple game for the Commodore 64, in which you are trying to protect a baby who has fallen down a mountain. The condor flying above has set its eyes on him, and your job is to climb up the mountain without touching any dangers, get the spear, and then throw it at the creature. If you happen to miss the shot, a local warrior will gladly pick it up and place it back on the mountain. If the condor manages to snatch the baby, it is game over regardless of how many lives you still have left.

Everything about the game is good, although the graphics could have been improved, especially as far as the mountain and ground are concerned. If you like sheer simplicity, then you might want to add this game to your C-64 library.
