Pizza Worm

Moby ID: 4150

Description

You play a green worm and you have to go around and eat the pizzas. But every time you eat a pizza your tail gets longer. Instead of other nibbles type games Pizza Worm can move in a lot of different angles rather than just right angle turns (like Rattler Race).

Best snake game around.

The Good
The freedom of movement is astounding. No longer are you restricted to a two axis moving field. You're free to smoothly turn your worm in beautiful circles this time around. You collect pizzas, and the bigger the pizza the bigger the score you gain. Probably the most fun thing about this game is the two-player mania, where two players worm it out in the quest for more pizzas, and the longer they get the more danger of running into each other. The sound effects of the worms eating those delicious pizzas are also noteworthy. It's also freeware, meaning you don't have to pay a dime to play this gem.

The Bad
The fact that it's pretty hard, even impossible, to run this game on newer machines is a big contractor the quality of this title. But hey, the source code's been released, maybe some good fellow will port it to native Windows.

The Bottom Line
Play it. Love it. You'll laugh. You'll cry. It's Pizza Worm, and it's one of the best, if not the best Snake/Nibbler clone out there.

An angle-free worm game... Nice

The Good
Pizza Worm is one of those small games that you install and play occasionally. The facts that it's installation takes very little space and it's free just make this point more clear. Indeed, Pizza Worm is one of the best rattler-race-type worm games around.

In Pizza Worm, as you can see from the name, you try to eat pizzas instead of apples or blobs that don't say anything to you. Sure, the graphics are definately from a place where sun don't shine, and the sounds basically make you laugh, but what you can't deny is the playability of the game. The biggest surprise at least for me was the fact that you can turn as much/little as you want, and you don't have to make the 90 degree turns as in most worm games. This raises the freedom and the challence of the game.

Then there's the fact that, unlike most old-age DOS games, this thing actually works under Windows 95 and 98. I don't know if it works under XP or 2000, though.

The Bad
Well, I'll be honest with you. The game looks like s... um... crap. The graphics were outdated when the game was published and in the world of 3D effects etc. the game looks like it's from year one or two after Adam.

The sounds aren't that old/lame/useless, but still, the effects are not by all means great. They just do their job.

The Bottom Line
This is one of those games for which you really must forget all the graphical nonsense and concentrate on the diamond-hard playability. That's what's important and that's what this game has. And it's bundled up with challenging and generally fun-to-play game.
