If you like rhythm games, this is a buy, but if games like Boom Boom Rocket was not your cup of tea, seek your game else where.

Even with the hip-hop soundtrack, the break-dancing theme probably could've been swapped for just about anything -- waffles, firefighters, a Toyota Yaris promotion, perhaps -- but I didn't find it especially overbearing or offensively phony, and the team at Little Boy Games did quite a bit with some pretty simple assets. The high-resolution hand-drawn dancers have few animations, but they still sparkle on the screen alongside heaps of flashing symbols and icons in the periphery. Go! Go! Break Steady is an unexpected visual delight (especially for HDTV owners) -- and it makes an already strong multigenre affair even better.

Go! Go! Break Steady isn't really unique, and it isn't really a must-get game, but it's a successful mishmash of three genres that, in my experience, don't usually go together — hip-hop, puzzle and rhythm. For the price ($10 or 800 Microsoft points), you could do a lot worse than this supply of songs and unique gameplay mixture, though the combination may not be intuitive for everyone. At the very least, give the demo a try and see if you like it. I certainly did.

Go! Go! Break Steady is a fun experiment in merging two genres that would seem to have nothing in common. It's like putting a walrus in your peanut butter. And yet, the results aren't half bad. If you can stomach the urban façade, there's a good game to be downloaded. It may not keep you satisfied for long (and can't hold a candle to Puzzle Quest or Zuma), it will probably have you hooked for a little while.

Rookie developer Little Boy Games seems like a veteran with the release of Go! Go! Break Steady. Stylized graphics, smooth 2D character animations and a slick presentation make Go! Go! Break Steady an experience not quite like anything else out there.

Still, all rhythm games require focus, and Break Steady is no exception. Seasoned players will enjoy challenging friends to determine break-dance superiority in competitive multiplayer… because if pop culture has taught us anything, it’s that any dispute can be settled with a dance-off. Co-op has each player alternate between pressing buttons and working the puzzle, but doing only one or the other grows dull quickly. Still, if you’re into music and/or puzzle games at all, Break Steady is worth a gander for its single-player and versus throwdowns.

Go! Go! Break Steady is worth a spin if your into either rhythm or puzzle games just because of its blending of the two genres. The vibrant graphics and funky beats are without a doubt the best part of the game. The multiplayer options are limited, but fun and will add a little life to the game. Coming in at 800 MS points may seem high, but after playing a few rounds it is a worthy addition to the games library.

It's all reasonably diverting, but the mix of genres never really gels and when things get frustrating the game lacks that basic addictive lure to keep you playing. The temptation to quit back to the dashboard and load up Boom Boom Rocket or Luxor instead is simply too strong.

Both rhythm and puzzle games have found mainstream audiences on their own, so it would seem that a game that combines the two would have mass appeal, but that's not the case with Go Go Break Steady. Those with an affinity for break dancing and genre blending might find some entertainment here, but it's hard to justify spending $10 on an unspectacular blend when the same money can get you a solid stand-alone puzzle or rhythm game elsewhere.

It’s got everything you might want from an XBLA game including extra downloadable content, multiplayer options including co-operative play and the capacity for custom soundtracks. What it doesn’t have is mass appeal. Still, somewhere out there is someone who’ll give Go! Go! Break Steady the love it so dearly needs.

Go! Go! Break Steady is a flawed game and you will get fed up with it pretty quickly. The transition between rhythm and puzzle doesn't really work as well as it sounds on paper and makes the game a heck of a lot less fun. It looks nice and it sounds alright, but those aren't worthy of a purchase. Stick with something like Puzzle Quest or Luxor if you want a decent puzzle game from LIVE Arcade.

With its basic flash-game-like presentation and a lack of musical hooks this title might well have worked better as a cheap and cheerful portable game, or a freebie popcap-style distraction to play during lunchtimes on your PC at work. As an Xbox Live Arcade title, and priced at 800 points the scales of rhythm and puzzle gaming justice render a verdict of "diminished responsibility" and consign Go Go Break Steady to the swiftly played and forgotten pile.

Toch heeft Little Boy Games met Go! Go! Break Steady geen heus wanproduct op de markt heeft gebracht. Doordat het spel een tweetal oerdegelijke spelelementen bij elkaar voegt, is het immers zo slecht nog niet. De afwezigheid van een eigen identiteit, de nauwelijks aansprekende muziek en de inspiratieloze uitwerking zorgen er echter wel voor dat het spel de moeite absoluut niet waard is. Zeker als je in je achterhoofd houdt dat het assortiment van de Xbox Live Marketplace een overdosis aan unieke spellen bevat. Ook de breakdancefans hebben niets bij Go! Go! Break Steady te zoeken, want een relatie tussen wat je werkelijk doet en het breakdancen, is geheel afwezig.
