President for a Day
Description
President for a Day is an educational game (ages 12 and up) exploring themes of poverty and international debt, through making the player President of the fictional African country of Mobesi. It was developed in partnership with Tearfund, a Christian relief organization.
The game is divided into 4 parts, which can be played in any order. Each part begins with the country facing a crossroads. (For example, choosing to focus on farming, cash crops, or manufacturing.) Advisers will present each choice in a video, then the player will choose which path to follow. Each choice will result in followup complications, which will require further choices. Some choices will result in revolution, invasion, or other disaster, and are to be avoided.
The game is designed to be played in a classroom environment, and to that end, has a teacher's guide, resources, and discussion questions at the end of each part.
