Gran Turismo 4: "Prologue"

aka: GT4: Prologue, Gran Turismo 4: The Real Driving Simulator - "Prologue"
Moby ID: 14808

PlayStation 2 version

A good, but difficult giant demo which nonetheless feels good to play.

The Good
The simplicity of the game is what, in my opinion, makes it attractive. Not only does it give you a preview of what GT4 was to be (with its legendary delays, the first hint at development being from 2001, the game pretended to be launched first in late 2002, then at the middle 2003, then in 2004, and finally, in early 2005 (March, if I am not wrong)), but it also lets you play Gran Turismo without all the, if you are into arcade, unnecessary things, no career mode, no money, etc. Just some challenges AND some circuits to race. Perfect.

The Bad
Although the game was generally easy to play and the challenges were GENERALLY funny, there were some of them, such as the one in which you had to overtake in a limited time an Honda in the NY circuit while starting ten seconds behind, that were tedious and frustrating. However, you could always use Action Replay, in real life or with an emulator.

The Bottom Line
Gran Turismo Kids edition. All the good of Gran Turismo without the effort (which I really like) of the career mode. Also the choice of cars, whether we are talking about car makers or about the number of it, is, in my opinion, spot on, with both street and racing cars. Urban circuits exist here in a greater number than in the base GT games, except maybe in GT concept.
