PlayStation Move: Ape Escape
Description
PlayStation Move: Ape Escape is a big diversion compared to its predecessors as it is designed for exclusive use with the PlayStation Move motion controls: instead of a platformer, it is a rail shooter. The story is that monkeys, lead by the usual antagonist Specter, invaded the world with UFOs and the player has to travel through 15 levels (set in different time periods) and catch the monkeys.
The levels are divided into two distinctive elements. During the first, the player automatically moves on a path and has to deal with various enemies like UFOs. The weapons of choice are a slingshot for ranged and a fan for melee attacks and reflecting projectiles. One of the most important tasks is collecting bananas on the way as those serve as health. Sometimes the player stops to move and the monkey catching begins: the basic gist is that the player has to use a net to catch a monkey as soon as it is directly in front of the screen. However, it is not that easy as there are various kinds of monkeys with different attack patterns. Additionally there are a few special weapons to use, e.g. a monkey vacuum which allows to cover a bigger area or a tool which converts enemies into bananas. Those weapons require batteries to use which can be collected during the levels.
Playing the campaign unlocks three mini games which are accessed separately. While the campaign is strictly single player, two of those mini games are played in co-op with another player: Mecha Tag Rally (one player controls a car through an obstacle course with the standard controller and the other shoots) and Sprayzer Defense Force (shooting falling objects before they crush the enemies on the ground). In the third mini game, Aim Slingsnipe, the player looks through a scope and has to find and shoot certain monkey in the crowd.
