Soundless Mountain II
Description
Soundless Mountain II is a demake of the Silent Hill 2, created for the TIGSource Bootleg Demakes competition. It turns the 3d game into a side-scrolling platformer modelled after a NES game. The music has also been remixed to what would be possible to hear on such a system. The game uses parallax scrolling, simulates fog and mist, and often has the camera scrolling faster or slower than the player's movement to enhance the cinematic effect.
The game covers the early events in the game, a short portion from Jake's arrival in the town of Silent Hill up to the apartment section. Jake came to the town because he received a letter addressed by his deceased wife who told him she would be waiting for him there. All the while, he has a terrible headache and explores the town to find out more about the origin of the letter.
The gameplay has been adapted truthfully to the limitations and options of a 2d game with a focus to retain the distinct original elements such as the art, music and speed. The backgrounds and locations can easily be recognized, Jake has a rather slow walking speed and the music becomes more dramatic whenever a key section has been reached. Large parts of the game are spent wandering, Jake needs to solve small puzzles and he can also attack enemies on the streets of the town. Important items are stored in the inventory and a map is available to guide Jake around.
The author has expressed to release an updated version of the game which additional content for the ending part of the game, to lead up to a more dramatic climax.
