Star Trek: Encounter in the Near Tholian System

A treaty of peace between the Federation of Planets has lasted since Organian star date 3199.5. However, with the passing of Ayelborne, the Klingons have openly provoked hostilities with Federation shipping, and have illegally confiscated a vast amount of cargo. The specter of war again looms over the entire galaxy. The player takes on the role of Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they attempt to engage and destroy the Klingon battlecruisers in the Near Tholian sector of space. These battlecruisers have already led to the loss of two Federation vessels and outposts.

The player engages in combat with Klingon battlecruisers. Each turn, the distance and angle to the Klingon vessel and its shield level are displayed. The Enterprise's current energy level and shield power are also displayed. The player can choose to attack, using either their forward or read phasors, or fire a photon torpedo. Each of these actions deplete the vessel's energy reserves. The ship can veer off, close to attack, or stop in its current position to better position itself in combat, which affects damage rates. The player can also choose to enact repairs or charge shields.

The goal is to destroy the enemy Klingon vessel before the Enterprise itself is destroyed.
