The Typing of The Dead: Overkill
Description
The Typing of The Dead: Overkill is a port of the PS3 title The House of the Dead: Overkill - Extended Cut, which is in turn an enhanced and updated version of the original Wii game The House of the Dead: Overkill. It has exactly the same content, including the additional levels, mini-games, unlockables and the director's cut mode with a harder difficulty after completing the game entirely.
This version returns to the earlier The Typing of The Dead games, however, by adding a new game mode based on typing and making that the game's main mode in addition to the existing one. Instead of aiming and using guns, words appear in front of zombies and these need to entered quickly. Each correct letter acts as a gunshot and knocks back the zombie a little. There is no reloading. Green, yellow and red borders surrounding the letter box signal how close they are to attacking. Sometimes projectiles need to be taken out as well, often by quickly typing a single letter. This mode also introduces an icon where it is sometimes possible to switch quickly between two viewing directions. When a word is started it needs to be finished, it is not possible to quickly start typing a different word of a more dangerous enemy.
The levels are completely identical to the regular House of the Dead game mode, but sometimes the gameplay is altered slightly, especially for boss battles. This means that all the pick-ups and collectibles appear in the environment, but they cannot be targeted or shot. By performing combos without missing letters, bullets fill up a revolver chamber near the top of the screen, providing a points multiplier. The words are randomised for each session based on three difficulty levels, and a fourth one after completing the game on the hardest setting. The mini-games and the cooperative online multiplayer for two players can be played in the Typing of The Dead mode as well.
The game supports multiple languages and custom dictionaries. Next to several ones offered as commercial DLC, some were introduces through updates for free: Football Manager of the Dead, Make War Not Love and Sci-fi.
