Kai Tak airport with the control tower and main gates in the background. Checkerboard hill out of view on left side.
The old airport is using VHHX designation not to confuse it with the closeby new airport that have reused the original VHHH.
The old VHHX also uses a new ATC frequency, as the original is used by the 'new' VHHH airport.
The adventure/sightseeing flights are quite a few, some in the day, some at night.
Approaching VHHX in the 'Willie' Monsoon adventure. (This is the easy straight in approach)
Runway showing ahead through the rain.
Better weather in this shot, and I'm in a slow Cessna.
Checkerboard Hill ahead, I circled the city and am now approaching from the other end of the runway, showing on my right.
Lots of advertising surrounding the airport; none of it was allowed to flash, so as not to be confused with the airport lights.
The floating restaurants are modeled, with junk farms close by.
Some non-square buildings to be seen here and there.
This is the bridge leading to the island with the new VHHH airport. The closeness prevents AI traffic on both airports, the approaches would interfere.
A night view; checkerboard hill is to the right in the picture.
Hong Kong by night is a spectacular view.
