Metal Spawn

Moby ID: 51963
Windows Specs

Description

In Metal Spawn, you use the keyboard to move your metal being left and right and fire at aliens as they move across the sky. Sometimes, when aliens die, they drop metal junk. You can pick these up for points but, more importantly, these allow you to spawn gun turrets. These gun turrets fire straight up and do not move but they also don't stop firing until they are destroyed. You have two types of aliens. The smaller ones more quicker and fire small, targeted shots. The larger ones are slower but better armored. Their shots are slower and fire straight down but are more powerful. To clear a level, you must destroy the required number of aliens. If you take too many hits on the upper part of your being, your health bar will deplete and you will die. If the time runs out, you also lose a life. Lose all your lives and the game is over.

Trivia

Development

Jake Birkett hosted a 48-hour Full Indie game jam at the Centre for Digital Media in Vancouver, B. C., Canada. While at this jam, he teamed up with designer and artist Cody Church and musician Brian Werst to create Metal Spawn. The idea was it was to be a cross between Space Invaders and a tower defense game. Of course, forty-eight hours is a short time to make a game, coupled with being the host, so not every feature that was planned was implemented. The theme of the game jam was "spawning" as it was the Father's Day weekend in Canada. After the jam, Mr. Birkett went back and made some minor tweaks as well as adding animation to the aliens, as Mr. Church had made the animation art.
