In April of 2017, a ransomware program called Rensenware was released. The only way for affected users to recover their files is to reach a minimum score of 200 million in this game's Lunatic mode. The malware program is able to detect when the game's process is running and reads its memory to determine whether or not the criteria have been met. The developer, an anonymous student from South Korea, created Rensenware as a joke and didn't expect it to spread very far. After he and many others became infected, he released a tool to undo the damage his program caused.
