Description

The Wonders of Electricity: An Adventure in Safety is an educational game for ages 8-11 that helps kids stay safe when playing outdoors near hydro wires or when using electrical appliances and equipment. The player is first greeted by Millie Watt, who has just heard that Alec T. Hazard is about to turn Hazardville into a dangerous electrical environment, and is assigned as a detective to clean up the mess that he made while learning the important rules of being safe around electricity.

In the first section, the player has to pick one of the three possible choices in order to find the best solution, then the player watches a video or diagram sequence explaining the problem, and in the final section, the player has to play a mini-game, ranging from matching games, mazes, and slide puzzles. Once an area is finished, the player can record the important information using the notebook, which can be printed out for later use. If all of the areas are clear, bonus games are unlocked as a reward.

A great game that helps kids stay safe from electrocution outside!

The Good
The Wonders of Electricity: An Adventure in Safety is one of the extremely obscure educational games out there here in Canada that teaches kids to stay safe from getting shocked by electricity when playing outdoors, or when using electrical equipment and appliances. To be honest, this was originally intended to be used in elementary schools in the Ontario region of Canada.

The safety lessons (along with the video and diagram sequences) are explained very well. Another thing is that Millie Watt's voice sounds like Minako Aino from the Viz dub of Sailor Moon (which Minako Aino's voice actress is played by Cherami Leigh). Gameplay is pretty simple for the target age group of 8 to 11, and I found that the sound quality is good, and the graphics are photographed along with FMV sequences in QuickTime video, which is really great for an obscure educational game like this!

The Bad
The voice acting quality is mediocre, even with the Millie Watt FMV sequences (it sounds like a non-Hi-Fi VHS tape to me). There is also a rare chance of technical glitches when played using modern systems such as Windows 10 64-BIT.

The Bottom Line
What do I like about The Wonders of Electricity: An Adventure in Safety? Well, It's extremely obscure, even in Canada, and if you are going to play outdoors for instance, and if you have kids, this would come in handy! Highly recommended!
