Game Chronicles (Apr 30, 2005)
Star Wars: Republic Command can best be described as “Rainbow Six Meets Star Wars”. The squad-based gameplay is here but its execution has been greatly simplified making the game much more accessible to the casual gamer and probably a bit insulting to Clancy veterans. Star Wars fans will certainly rejoice in another quality title that allows them to explore a new warrior from the franchise as well as exciting new locations where you will get to meet new and familiar faces and kill them…commando style.
GameZone (Mar 16, 2005)
If there ever was a Star Wars shooter that was a must-own, this is it. Republic Commando combines the greatness of a high-quality first-person shooter with the coolness, greatness and overall Forcefulness of the Star Wars saga.
Although much of the attention goes towards the system’s squad-based components, it’s important to note that there is still a solid shooter to be found in Star Wars: Republic Commando that should appease any action fan – even if you think Star Wars is something left only for social lepers who still live in their mom’s basement.
While there are some recognizable technical issues that mar the glossy sheen of Republic Commando, they are only noticeable because everything else has been done with such finesse. Painting Star Wars in a dark and gritty light results in visuals that are both believable and deeply involving.

GameSpot (Feb 25, 2005)
If you're a fan of Star Wars or action games, Republic Commando is easy to recommend. The single-player aspect combines the elements of this generation's best action games with an added flavor that's all its own. The campaign offers nonstop action from start to finish, making the game easily one of the most enjoyable and memorable Star Wars experiences in recent memory. Our only caveats are that the campaign won't last you long, and the multiplayer is merely competent, which doesn't make the game stand out in a crowded market of first-person shooters. Even with that in mind, the quality single-player experience of Republic Commando should not be missed by anyone who fancies him- or herself an action game aficionado.
VGPub (2005)
Republic Commando definitely delivers as a great Star Wars game. Aside from that, it?s even a very good action game too. Fans of both the movies and action games should definitely come away pleased with the game, even though the multiplayer is disappointing. The campaign is really that good.
Game Over Online (Mar 14, 2005)
Fans of the Star Wars Franchise will probably love this title, because it gives them a different sense of their favorite series from the soldier’s perspective. However, this is one of those titles that will appeal to action gamers and some strategy players alike. Although it’s a short single player experience, Commando packs a ton of action into every minute, and gamers will enjoy every minute of it.
games xtreme (Mar 02, 2005)
Republic Commando should be on any Star Wars fans shelf as well as those who want a pretty solid and intelligent FPS/Squad based game. The AI is ropey at times but otherwise does its job admirably. It lacks Coop and that is a big negative.

Star Wars: Republic Commando is an excellently finished game, with great graphics and exemplary sound. Unfortunately despite the truly fantastic interface, the ease-of-use and strong A.I things haven't been worked out or are challenging enough to make the total experience perfect. A true suggestion for people who love tactical shooters and the Star Wars universe but definitely not a classic in the genre. Don't let that stop you from enjoying the ten hours of action though! I myself am already looking forward to a sequel.
XBox Front (Mar 13, 2005)
Over the years, we have sliced through Imperial forces with twirling lightsabers, given in to the tantalizing power of the Dark Side, and destroyed the Death Star more times than George Lucas has worn his favorite flannel. With a setting that Tom Clancy wouldn’t mind endorsing, Republic Commando emerges as a great departure for Star Wars gaming, and a breath of fresh air that fans have been dreaming of since they first watched a squadron of storm troopers obliterate a hapless crew aboard the Tantive IV blockade runner.
IGN (Feb 18, 2005)
If you're a fan of Star Wars that's been looking for something a little grittier, this is definitely a good choice. Don't expect it to blow your mind, but it looks good and plays well while it lasts.

Star Wars Republic Commando features an enhanced version of the acclaimed Unreal engine technology and will be optimized for Xbox Live content. The game will also offer multiplayer capabilities including deathmatch, team deathmatch and capture the flag. The main downside to the game is that you will probably be through the mission in around 10 hours. Although with the 4 player mode and online capability you will glean more play time from the game. If this kind of action shooter is your bag then Star Wars Republic Commando is going to float your boat it has taken from the best in its genre and from the best of the Star Wars world.
80 (UK) (Feb 23, 2005)
We hardly have to encourage LucasArts to make another Star Wars game, but more of the same focus on quality with a little less of a half-hearted approach to multiplayer and it'd be impossible to ignore. As it is Republic Commando deserves huge respect for managing to be the best Star Wars shooter ever.
GameSpy (Feb 21, 2005)
As the first tactical shooter set in the Universe that George Built, Star Wars: Republic Commando offers fans an entertaining (albeit short) experience. Everything about the game's production has been highly polished, with the results being very slick visuals, impressive audio effects, and some innovative additions to the genre. Although these clone warriors might not be ready to give Ding Chavez and the boys from Rainbow a run for their money, there's no doubt that we'll be (hopefully) seeing more of their adventures in the future.
Console Obsession (May 31, 2010)
Despite it’s so-so squad command system, Star Wars: Republic Commando is still a superb shooter and without doubt one of the best of its kind the Xbox has to offer. People who are looking forward to the newest film in the saga, should check this game out for a sneak preview of some of the vehicles and enemies etc that are featured in the movie. FPS fans on the other hand will be wholly satisfied with the well executed action on offer in this fantastic game.
PlayDevil (May 20, 2005)
"Star Wars: Republic Commando" is a good action packed FPS game from the Star Wars universe. If offers the best graphics and sound(fx) we have seen in any SW game. From time to time you may encounter some AI troubles with your squad members but when comparing the other positive aspects of the game you'll probably forget this fast and just play on. However if you're looking for a tactical Star Wars game, you better skip this title because pure tactics are not involved here. Stick with the excellent NON-SW game "Brother in Arms: Road to Hill 30" instead (review here) or just wait until a decent tactical Star Wars game hits the market. Conclusion is that when you're looking for a full action-shooter-Star Wars game, "Republic Commando" should be yours!

Game Revolution (Mar 15, 2005)
When the dust clears and the last enemy has fallen, Star Wars: Republic Commando remains an impressive but brief first-person foray into the Star Wars universe. The tour of duty deftly combines intuitive squad-based tactics with fast-paced action, though those wanting to go career will be disappointed in the lack of long-term value. But hey, not too shabby for a clone.
While Star Wars: Republic Commando is a pretty solid game overall, it's entirely forgettable and will wind up in that large pile of good-but-not-great titles that LucasArts has building up recently. The squad gameplay's not bad, but the gunfights are a little dull and the multiplayer modes are entirely underwhelming. The game simply doesn't excel at the meat and potatoes of an action-oriented game: the action itself.
X-Power (Jun 02, 2005)

Extreme Gamer (Mar 18, 2004)
Star Wars: Republic Commando is worth the price of a rental first. Find out what you are getting into before you purchase this game. The hype has made it out to much more than it, Rainbow Six its not! If you love the new Star Wars movies and you just want to fire it up then I gather Republic Commando won't disappoint you like it did me. Now, where did I put that Star Wars Battlefront disc?
The Video Game Critic (Jun 02, 2008)
Rupublic Commando's single player mode is engaging for a while, but the monotonous environments and regenerating creatures (damn flying bugs) take their toll on the fun. The storyline and objectives are pretty vanilla as you blindly forge ahead on your linear path. The multiplayer split-screen is even more bland. I like Republic Commando's crisp graphics and simple gameplay, but it's one of the less memorable Star Wars titles.
Diehard GameFan (Mar 15, 2005)
Star Wars: Republic Commando, at the end of the day, is a remarkable yet flawed work that is a suitable footnote in the commercial narrative of the house that Lucas built, yet easily one of LucasArt’s better efforts in recent years. Fans of the franchise will probably see Star Wars: Republic Commando as an excellent addition to their Star Wars game collection alongside some of the franchise’s other better titles. For the rest of us, the game is a decent rental; a ‘pop-corn’ game, if you will.
Netjak (May 18, 2005)
Overall, Star Wars: Republic Commando is, at the end of the day, an extremely average first person shooter. It does some things well, but it also does some things poorly, and the end result is a game that’s really not worth paying top-dollar for. It might be worth a purchase once the price drops, or a rental today, but there just isn’t enough here to justify spending your hard-earned gaming dollars on Republic Commando just because it’s a Star Wars game. If you’re craving a good action game, then you would be better off revisiting Rainbow Six or Halo 2 than settling for this attack of the clones.
