In Irem's coin-op Moon Patrol, the player controls an armour moon buggy and must make their way across the rocky surface of the moon, avoiding holes in the ground while fighting alien enemies. It started an entire genre with its innovate gameplay that combined both shooting, jumping and driving — a theme revived by Metal Slug.
