A 20 year veteran of both the publishing and video game industries, Chris Ulm is currently CEO and co-founder of Appy Entertainment, an iPhone game developer based in San Diego, California. While at Appy, Chris has overseen the studio's popular photo boxing game, FaceFighter, as well as the arcade-puzzle game, Zombie Pizza. Both games were featured Staff Picks on Apple's iTunes store.
Prior to Appy, Chris co-founded console game developer High Moon Studios and was co-creator of its original video game property, Darkwatch. As Chief Development Officer, Chris was a key player in building High Moon and was integral to the company's acquisition of by Vivendi Universal Games in 2006.
Chris' other video game credits include major elements behind the story line and game play of Abe's Exoddus and Munch's Oddysee. While working at Oddworld Inhabitants, Chris also helped develop the project's overall vision with creative director Lorne Lanning. Chris and Lorne's collaborative effort is nominated for an award in the "Excellence in Game Design" category at the 2002 Game Developers Conference (GDC).
Before Oddworld, Chris co-founded Mainbrain Productions, a Malibu-based animation and comic book developer. While there, he adapted the blockbuster game Myst into a comic book series for Dark Horse Comics, and helped develop animated series for Universal Cartoon Studios and Klasky-Csupo.
Prior to becoming a video game developer, Chris was the co-founder of Malibu Comics Entertainment, the creators of Men in Black. While at Malibu Comics, Chris served as Editor-In-Chief, overseeing the development of properties that included the popular Nightman and UltraForce series. He was instrumental in growing the company into the fourth largest comic book publisher in North America, bringing on board such key licensed properties as Paramount Pictures' Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and 20th Century Fox's Planet of the Apes.
Chris has appeared as a featured speaker at numerous video game industry events, including e3 and GDC. Chris received his BA in History at the University of California, Northridge.
