Biography edit · view history
Tom Gambill was swept from the world of marine robotics, into the wild world of game development by Kesmai in 1995. There he began work on several sequels to Air Warrior, one of the first commercially successful MMP games. After completing Air Warrior for Windows, Air Warrior II, and Air Warrior III he went to work for Origin Systems on the original Ultima Online 2 (Ultima Worlds: Origin).
Following that, he spent a year as owner and CTO of a startup called Ninjaneering, developing new graphics technology for games. In 2002 as part of a licensing deal with NCsoft for this technology, he joined full time to develop the graphics engine now being used in several MMP games such as Tabula Rasa, Auto Assault, and AlterLife. With Auto Assault and Tabula Rasa out the door, he went on to develop technologies to support console MMOs.
In late 2007, Tom joined a startup called Trion World Network funded by the likes of NBC/Universal and Time Warner, developing online games.
He then went on to work on a yet to be announced MMO project at Timegate Studios in Texas. While at Timegate, Tom also worked on Section 8 and the follow-up Section 8: Prejudice, as well as developing the stereo 3D for the game Tron: Evolution, released along side the Disney movie of the same name.
Currently, Tom is working with middleware developer Havok on advanced rendering technology for the Havok Vision engine.
