Overview edit · view history

Yosemite Entertainment was a US development studio owned by Sierra On-Line. It was based in Sierra's old headquarters in Oakhurst, California after the company moved to Bellevue, Washington in August 1993.

The studio developed two titles: Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire (1998) as the final entry in Sierra's adventure / RPG hybrid series and the tactical strategy game Police Quest: SWAT 2 (1998). From 1998 onwards the studio was also informally referred to as Sierra FX as Sierra divided the company in five sub brands and corporate divisions. Sierra FX was responsible for adventure games and online multiplayer games.

Yosemite Entertainment was shut down on 22nd February 1999, as part of corporate consolidation by Havas. Four studios were folded in the main Sierra headquarters and the Yosemite division was one of them. Craig Alexander, Yosemite Entertainment's general manager, led the acquisition of some of the assets by the UK company The Codemasters Software Company Limited.

Codemasters established a new studio Codemasters Yosemite, Inc. in the building and retained a number of employees. They also acquired the name Yosemite Entertainment, as well as the title SEALs that was in development, an Unreal Engine adaptation of the Rogue Warrior books, and also The Realm, a fantasy-based massively multiplayer online world originally launched in 1996.

Not everything was sold to Codemasters. Another title in development was Babylon 5: Into the Fire, a space combat simulation based on the Babylon 5 franchise. That title was moved to Sierra to finish development, as well as the MMO Middle Earth Online.

SEALs, Babylon 5: Into the Fire and Middle Earth Online were all never released.
