Overview edit · view history
Terrible Toybox is fully remote game development studio. It was most likely formed around 2014 by Ron Gilbert to work together with Gary Winnick on Thimbleweed Park, a point-and-click adventure game as a spiritual successor to their titles Maniac Mansion (1987) and The Secret of Monkey Island (1990) at Lucasfilm Games. After a month-long crowd-funding campaign on Kickstarter in November 2014, the game eventually raised US$626,250 from 15,623 people. It was released in March 2017. In 2020 a smaller side project Delores set in the same universe was released.
In 2016 Gilbert took to Twitter asking Disney to sell him back his Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion IP. On 4th March 2022 Return to Monkey Island was announced, a direct sequel to Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge. Development had started in 2020. It was released in September 2022.
