OverviewDarkworks S.A. was an independent game development studio based in Paris, France. It was founded on 8th January 1998 by Antoine Villette (President) and Guillaume Gouraud (General Manager and Artistic Director) as Darkworks Interactive. They both worked at Verity Interactive SARL, the French subsidiary of the American company Verity, Inc., and acquired it to establish it as their own studio. The name was later changed to Darkworks S.A.
During its existence the team created and completed two games: Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare (2001) and Cold Fear (2005) as full Darkworks titles. The team was also involved with other projects such as creating Les Visiteurs: Le Jeu (1998) together with Cryo Interactive Entertainment.
Many sources claim the company worked on the PS2 / Xbox version of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (2006), but the credits only reveal that a number of Darkworks developers contributed to the level design of the Xbox 360 version, but without explicit mention of the company. Other titles the company was involved with are 1906: An Antarctic Odyssey (1998 - PS2 - sales demo) and USS Antarctica (Xbox - cancelled).
Together with TriOviz the company created TriOviz for Games Technology, a technological solution that enables smooth stereoscopic 3D conversion of video games or multimedia products (Windows, Xbox 360, PS3). It was used in such games as Batman: Arkham Asylum (Game of the Year Edition), Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, Thor: God of Thunder, Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters, Captain America: Super Soldier, Gears of War 3, and Batman: Arkham City.
The team then worked on a third title, I Am Alive, but in March 2009 it was announced Ubisoft had taken it out of their hands after three years in mutual agreement to have Shanghai UBI Computer Software Co., Ltd. finish it. It was eventually released as a Ubisoft game in March 2012.
In September 2011 it was announced the studio would be closed. Another game called Black Death (Windows, Xbox 360, PS3) was still in development, but cancelled. TriOviz acquired all stereoscopic 3D technology and rights.
