The Office of Film and Literature Classification, the government organization responsible for classifying computer games in Australia, has just banned the game version of Eidos Interactive's Reservoir Dogs. Since there is still no adults-only classification for games in this country, this means that nobody, not even adults, can buy this game in Australia. The current attitude is "only children play computer games". Well, as a gamer over the age of 18. Well, I find it offensive that I am still considered a minor. Australia has the worst censorship in the world that we are made the laughing stock.

I always wondered what the hell could a Reservoir Dogs game possibly be about.

By the way, Oleg is living in the People's Republic of China. I think he can tell you a thing or tow about censorship.

I think the game is supposed to be everything leading up to the warehouse. As I understand it, there are two modes of play: professional (stealth ala Hitman) and psychopath (shooter ala most FPSes).

Pretty much, but I think the Reservoir Dogs license lends itself pretty well to this style of gameplay.

I'm still amazed there are so many different licenses based off Platoon

Haha, I just find it amusing that this news is posted after an article with the heading "Go, Australia!". :-)

Oh yes. Lots of stuff to learn for a spoiled citizen of the "first world"...

We should remember one thing as long as we can openly discuss censorship and such, it can't be that bad. In China, you don't have that privilege. What is censored or forbidden is also not open for discussion. At least you Australians know that something is being censored...

Reminds me of the old joke how a Jew wanted to leave Soviet Union and was reproached by the authorities:
"Why do you want to leave your communist motherland?! Is the food bad here?"
"Well... eh... I suppose I can't complain..."
"Don't you have a good job here?"
"Uh... I can't complain..."
"Do you dislike our government?!"
"I can't complain..."
"So why do you want to go to Israel?!!"
"Because there, I can complain!!"

Too early for philosophy. Thread should start at around post #40. Around 10 posts before we start discussing tentacle porn again (dang it can't get that outta my head...aargh).

Personally I'm for limited censorship. I personally would like my face censored when I look in the mirror in the morning after a rough night...:p

Nah, no need to debate it. I already said it: Censorship blows!

Which is why I obviously stated "Nuff said". ;-)
