Coryoon: Child of Dragon
Description
As Coryoon the dragon, you must save the princess in this horizontally-scrolling shoot 'em up. Most shot enemies release fruit (larger pieces from tough enemies requiring multiple shots), which can be collected for bonus points. The game is split into several worlds, each with two bosses to destroy at regular intervals, and each level is loosely colour-themed.
Storks regularly fly by, and can be shot to release one of the many bonus weapons. These include super-powerful shots, multi-directional fire, and assisting drones. When you get killed while in possession of one, you lose the weapon rather than a life.

A great shoot 'em up that too few Westerners have played
The Good
Japanese game design is all over Coryoon. The storyline takes it away from the space setting you get in most shoot 'em ups. There's a great variety in the enemies you face, with wall-mounted moving spiders and their webs, penguins, firing sea-creatures and loads more. Everything is surprising and imaginative throughout.
The use of fruit gives you something to aim for, and ensures that the game has an inherent cuddliness and a light-hearted feel (it makes a change from burgers and hot dogs as energy recharges anyway).
Graphics and sound are extremely impressive, controls are responsive and the difficulty curve is well-judged.
The Bad
There are occasions where the amount going on makes it difficult to tell where the enemy bullets are, so you will find yourself losing lives surprisingly at times. Fortunately the difficulty level isn't excessively high, and you still have every chance of completing the game.
The Bottom Line
Perhaps the best of all the great TG-exclusive shooters, and arguably the best thing the venerable Naxat Soft ever created. A lot of other shoot 'em ups of the ear pale next to the invention, humour and style of this one.
