ACTIVISION PARTNERS WITH ID SOFTWARE ON WORLDWIDE DISTRIBUTION OF QUAKE II

Announcement Marks Fourth id Title to be Distributed by Activision

Los Angeles, CA, May 30, 1997 -- Further expanding its relationship with id Software, Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to id's next game tentatively titled Quake II. The engaging 3-D action shooter marks the fourth id title to be distributed by Activision. The company has also distributed id Software's official QUAKE Mission Pack No. 1: Scourge of Armagon and QUAKE Mission Pack No. 2: Dissolution of Eternity and will distribute the upcoming title Hexen II. The announcement was made today by Bobby Kotick, Chairman and CEO, Activision, Inc.

Quake II marks a revolutionary step in 3-D action gaming by making players prey to monsters that will unmercifully hunt them down, execute sophisticated tactical maneuvers and absorb thunderous damage. Gamers encounter an entirely new breed of intelligent and aggressive enemies which inhabit a complex matrix of interrelated, nonlinear worlds as players seek to avoid becoming a fine mist of blood and bone.

Superb artwork, interactive environments, dramatic lighting effects and dynamic single and multiplayer gameplay enhance id's legendary in-your-face skull- crushing combat. Quake II will feature the QUAKE Unified Engine which integrates the previously separate 3-D chip sets, Windows 95/NT and Internet components of QUAKE. The leading edge game technology will deliver increasingly sophisticated artificial intelligence and speed.

"Activision is very excited to partner with id Software on the next chapter in one of the biggest events in the history of interactive entertainment," states Kotick. "Quake II will fulfill the promise of the QUAKE technology by delivering an awesome game with groundbreaking single-player action and revolutionary multiplayer death matches." "The development team has really outdone themselves from both a design and technology standpoint with Quake II," said Todd Hollenshead, chief executive officer at id Software. "We're excited to be working with Activision on what is our most ambitious title ever."

Press Release

Blood vessels and wires should never have been crossed. Souls and circuitry, brain stems and processors.

19:11 THE LINE BETWEEN MAN AND MACHINE SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ERASED.

5.19.47 14:35 ALIEN SCUM CAN KISS THE BUTT OF MY RAIL GUN. Orders came in from the brass this morning. Tonight, I'll be on the C-30K Marine Carrier with the rest of 101st Spaceborne. A little hypersleep, a couple thousand gallons of rationed I.V. Nourishment, a few hundred light years, and we'll be knee-deep in Strogg blood.

20:!6 I'm now on the carrier and next in line for my goodnight kiss. When I awake from the icy hypersleep, there will be only hell. And there will be h ell to pay. My railgun and BFG will make sure of that. The Stroggs killed my parents and my only sister. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I AM NOT A PACIFIST.

1: Large, complex missions. What you do in one level could affect another. One false move and you could alert security, flood a passageway, or worse.

2: Superior artificial intelligence. The enemy is far from stupid. They will evade attacks, maneuver into strategic attack locations, and hunt your ass down.

  1. Intense environments. Man gun turrets. Blow up subways. Smash glass. Toss grenades with perfect control. Duck to evade hits. Give them Hell.

17:05 It's either us or them this time. We lose, and we all end up bratwurst on the grill of some ungodly mechanized carnivore. We win, and the terran Coalition of Man can start rebuilding the cities on mars, Olympus, even Earth. Who knows -- they might even get the old interplanetary football league going again. God, I miss Monday Night Football.

18:03 Grotesque images of Stroggs have been filling my sleep at night. Their metallic spines jutting awkwardly through muscle, skin and connective tissue, masks of human facial skin smeared and bonded to their cyber-alloy heads, crude but powerful weapons jammed into oozing, gaping sockets. Thank God the endless sleep ahead is dreamless.

19:42 You learn the hard way in the outer sector... Like never get into a drinking match with a three-headed Bukan. Never assume a Strogg is dead even when he's nothing but bloody scraps of shrapnel. And never go to bed with a Rabaul no matter how many breasts she has.
