Transformers G1: Awakening

Moby ID: 57969

Description

True to its name, Transformers G1: Awakening is based on the original Transformers franchise from 1984 . The game consists of three modes, two of which need to be unlocked first.* Story mode is available from the start. After crashing and being in stasis for millions of years, the Autobot and Decepticon factions awake and continue their battles on earth. The player guides the Autobots through the turn-based missions in linear fashion. The goal is usually to take out all opposing units, sometimes other conditions must be met. The story itself has some similarities to the first animated series – Jetfire for example is on the Decepticon side when he is encountered first, and later defects to the Autobots.

  • Show Down is the first mode that can be unlocked. It consists of a number of extra scenarios positing different challenges for the Autobots.

  • Cybertron Arena is the last mode and offers a selection of maps and the Decepticon faction in addition to the Autobots, for either playing against the AI or another human player.

The Transformers featured in the game have different traits affecting the gameplay. Optimus Prime for example has good stats, and gives a bonus to nearby units. The transforming ability comes into play by turning characters into their appropriate vehicle mode. While being in this form, units can move further and are tougher, but can’t capture installations, attack or strike back when they are themselves attacked (this also applies to Decepticons). While certain characters don’t possess an alternate form in the game, some of them (Metroplex, Trypticon, Soundwave and Blaster), have the ability to activate additional units during a mission, provided the Energon supply is sufficient. Energon is also needed for repair and upgrades, and it’s flow can be increased by capturing power stations located on the map.

The game graphics differ from each other according to platform respectively devices, some versions use less detailed 2D graphics instead of 3D.
