Description

Terminator Genisys: Revolution is a third-person shooter and a tie-in to the 2015 movie Terminator Genisys, but loosely based on the events. This game introduces a new character, Alex Lopez, who has been locked up in a work camp by Skynet. It takes place in 2029 when the resistance and the terminators have been at war for 32 years. The resistance wants to liberate the entire camp and uses Lopez as an inside contact to help organize the breakout. The game takes place in New York, with four more chapters in Chicago, San Francisco, Cheyenne Mountain and Los Angeles.

The game consists of several short levels played in succession. It is a cover based third-person shooter with no free movement. Levels generally start with Lopez taking cover. He pops out and shoot and when all opponents have been defeated the level is finished. Some levels consists of multiple areas. When one has been completed, a cinematic sequence shows Lopez moving to the next part and there the process is repeated. Cover generally only lasts a short while, so enemies need to be taken out quickly. When aiming, the left side of the screen is used to move the cross-hairs and the bottom right side to shoot. There are different weapons such as assault rifles, shotguns, grenade launchers, rocket launchers, EMPs, sniper rifles and various plasma powered rifles. Weapons have a reload time and it is possible to switch to a secondary weapon. Later on weapons can have various types of ammo such as high explosives, depleted uranium, plasma and electrical munition. Weapons have statistics such as damage, reload time, rate of fire and clip size. To keep progressing upgrading weapons is required with a currency that can be earned in-game. Lopez gains experience and levels up. There are medikits that are stored in the top left corner of the screen for a quick health refill.

Each of the five chapters consists of multiple missions. By completing these a meter near the top of the screen shows the progress to the final battle in the area. There are always multiple missions available based on different types. The game is free-to-play and uses various currencies. Green cash is the regular currency earned in-game to upgrade weapons. Purple plasma cells are harder to come by and are used to access and upgrade advanced weapons. They can only be earned in harder Spec Op missions. Gold is the premium currency used to unlock the most powerful content. In additional to various in-app purchases for gold, advertisement and weapon packs, the game uses a stamina mission that requires an amount for each mission and regenerates slowly. There are temporary VIP events where spending gold is rewarded with bonus items.
