The Good
This Tetris variant is actually fairly solid. It's been around since the early days of the Game Boy and the NES, and is still just as fun. Graphically there isn't much to talk about. Doc doesn't go near using the full power of the N64, still there are some nice effects thrown in here and there.
But graphics, in this case, doesn't make the game. The addictive gameplay can be a lot of fun, and is actually at times more enjoyable then Tetris (ok, only sometimes).
And I'm glad that Nintendo added a 4 player mode here. These days playing anything less then 4 players just isn't as fun anymore.
The Bad
Apart from an addictive single player and the 4 player mode, however, there really isn't much here to keep you going. After a few hours or so, I gave up. I did come back every once in a while just for the fun of it, but I would have liked a few more play modes to make the purchase more worthwhile.
And as I said above, the game doesn't use any of the power that the N64 can push out. I personally feel that Nintendo ran out of ideas, and just threw this out hoping to make a few more dollars to go towards Gamecube development. If they had put more time into it, this could have been much, much more then what it came out to be.
The Bottom Line
For what its worth, try it anyway just for the 4 player mode. Trust me, you'll like it. And the fact that, just like Tetris it's easy to get into, younger players can play it just as easily as seasoned players. If you are looking for something more long lasting, try any of the Tetris games (official, not cloned).
